Activity rules

We're finally ready to reveal our new and improved activity rules. We have completely reworked how activities can be set up in order to provide you with an even more powerful set of features to design courses. You can do all of the things you were able to do before including a long list of new options. Here's what the new update includes:

Activity slide-in

The old activity settings page has been replaced with a slide-in that allows you to work faster while designing your courses. The new slide-in will stay open as you navigate between activities. If you are on a large monitor, you will be able to keep the activity settings panel open at all times allowing you to easily interact with content and settings at the same time.

Activity settings

The first tab in the new activity settings contains all the activity settings that you're used to. We have updated the user experience and look of activity settings to be easier and faster to interact with.

Activity rules: Completion & visibility

We have reworked how activity rules used to work and separated them into two different categories: completion and visibility.

You will be using completion rules to decide which activities learners can interact with. Think of them as rules that decide if an activity is locked, not open yet or ready to complete for learners. This is where you will set up rules like prerequisites and deadlines.

You also have the option to set up visibility rules that decides when a learner can see the activity in the course. Think of them as rules for when participants has access to and can see the activity in the course sidebar. This is where you will typically set up rules that only shows the activity to a subset of learners or completely hides it from them.

New learning design possibilities

It might not be immediately obvious, but with this change comes a long list of new possibilities for how you can design your courses. Here are a few examples of how you can leverage the new rules to achieve things that used to not be possible in Eduflow:

  • You can now set up a visibility rule to reveal an activity at a given date and time.
  • You can now set up a visibility rule to hide certain activities from assistants.
  • You can now set up a visibility rule that will reveal activities once other activities have been completed.
  • You can now set up completion rules for a flow that will propagate to all activities it contains.
  • You will soon be able to use course data to build out rules. This will make it possible to do powerful stuff like creating a learning path based on answers from a form or unlock activities based on scores.

We're still working on adding new features to activity rules that will give you even more power to design your learning experiences. We know that change can be hard to deal with, but we hope that this update will serve you well and that you see the potential of our new features.

We're eager (and a bit nervous) to hear what you think about these feature updates. Let us know via email or by reaching out through out in-app chat support.
